Does PVB have accessible versions of the books?
Does PVB have accessible versions of the books?
Yes! Pioneer Valley Books partners with NIMAC to convert all of our titles into NIMAS formats.
What is NIMAC and NIMAS?
NIMAC (National Instructional Materials Access Center) is a federally funded, fully searchable, online file repository of K–12 print textbook content in the XML-based NIMAS (National Instructional Materials Accessibility Standard) format. As a source file format, NIMAS is not intended to be distributed directly to students, but rather the files are meant to be used to create formats such as braille, large print, DAISY (Digital Accessible Information System) text, DAISY audio, and other digital formats. NIMAC users are generally organizations that produce and distribute accessible formats produced from NIMAS, as opposed to individual students, teachers, or schools.
What does this mean for PVB customers?
If you are looking for accessible versions of our books, they can be found already uploaded to the NIMAC system. As long as your school or district has access to NIMAC, all of the titles can be accessed there. NIMAC can be searched by either book title or publisher (Pioneer Valley Educational Press, Inc.). If you would like a list of our titles, please let us know. If you need assistance accessing NIMAC, please request that access via www.nimac.us.
How do I search for books on NIMAC?
- Start here: https://nimac.overdrive.com/ContentInventory
- To search for a specific book, enter the PVB title into the search box and click on the Search button.
- Locate your title and click on View Title Details for more information.
- To view all PVB titles, click on the Search button when the search field is blank.
- On the left rail, click Publishers, then select Pioneer Valley Educational Press.
What if I cannot find a title on NIMAC?
All titles published by PVB are live on the NIMAC system. When new titles are due to be published, we begin file conversion and upload to NIMAC. This process takes a few weeks but a new book should be available on NIMAC around the same time that it is available in print. If you cannot find a PVB title, please contact us for assistance.
